Caribbean airline moves into the pizza delivery business
This is one of the best airline marketing ideas I have seen of late...
Winair, a commuter, regional, airline based at Princess Juliana airport in the island of Sint Maarten, in the Caribbean, has taken on the pizza delivery role as well.
For just the regular delivery fare of $2.75, Winair can bring you a freshly baked pizza from Domino's branch at Princess Juliana airport. In fact, blogger Leslie Yip already showed how it is perfectly feasible to deliver pizza from Sint Maarten to the nearby island of Saba in less than 30 minutes from the reception of the order (see the video).
However, Winair and its partners in this venture, Princess Juliana airport and Domino's Pizza, have just gone one step further and managed to break a World record in the pizza delivery business: pizza was delivered to 8 different countries and territories in less than 45 minutes!
Geograpy helps, of course, as Princess Juliana airport is just a stone's throw from the neighbouring islands of St.Barts, Saba, St.Eustatius, Anguilla, St.Kitts and Nevis to which you can add the Dutch and French sides of the island of St.Martin.
A 9th pizza delivery was also planned, to Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands, but was finally dropped due to operational restrictions at the airport at the time.
How cool is that?
