On CNN: how airlines can make stopovers enjoyable

A stopover is, generally speaking, something to be avoided.

Yet, there are, as I write these lines, a couple of airlines that are going the extra mile to make their passengers' transit time not just enjoyable, but an experience in itself.

Icelandair has even enrolled a crew of volunteers to take those passengers that stop over in Iceland on a truly local experience that may include from hiking in the Arctic wilderness to cod fishing in the North Atlantic.

KLM, in turn, is playing it cool with technology, and leveraging its social media expertise, to launch its very own matching app. Passengers flying through Amsterdam will be able to connect with locals and explore the local bar scene.
