Are we in the midst of an aeronautical “big-bang” comparable to the entrepreneurial inter-war years?

We may say so, to judge by the number of innovative projects vying to transform and de-carbonize the air travel industry.

But at least one of them is looking back to the past for inspiration. David Gallezot, an aeronautical engineer and entrepreneur based in eastern France, is reviving one of the iconical brand of pre-war French aviation: Avions Mauboussin.

Although the two aircraft concepts he and his team are working on have little similarity with those devised by Pierre Mauboussin nearly a hundred years ago. The Alérion and Alcyon hybrid aircraft are designed to facilitate regional travel between a large number of locations, thanks to their STOL capabilities and to do so in a clean and efficient way.

Check out today’s episode of the podcast to hear more about this fascinating project that bridges the past and future of the French aviation industry!
