Alexadre Feray is a former Air France executive that, a few years ago, saw there was an opportunity to help airlines save fuel and lower carbon emissions through big data.

Open Airlines, the startup he founded with €20,000 of his own savings, ingests tons of airline flight data and gets its algorithms to come up with actionable recommendations that help pilots fly as efficiently as possible. The result: less fuel burnt and less carbon in the atmosphere.

Airlines have noticed and today Open Airlines services 44 airlines from its base in Toulouse, France, and offices in America and Asia.

Listen to this episode for an inspirational story of entrepreneurship as well as to listen to Alexandre explain how existing technology can contribute, already today, to a greener aviation industry…
