There’s a new episode of the podcast!
Kanika Tekriwal has built JetSetGo into the top integrated executive aviation operator in India.
In this episode we talk with Kanika about the evolution of the private jet industry in India, but also about the projects she has in the field of electric aviation and advanced air mobility. Check it out!
Electric aviation
Battery developer Amprius announced a new battery cell (based on silicon anode technology) that gets to 370 Wh/kg (at cell level).
Advanced Air Mobility
Vertical Aerospace keeps strengthening its war chest with an additional $90 million.
Part of this is the $25 already committed by Mudrick Capital before the end of 2024 and another $60M comes from new investors. The deal has been structured through the sale of 15 million “units”, each comprised of an ordinary share and two half-warrants, which, if exercised, will bring another $101M to the company’s coffers. The UK eVTOL developer also got Dómhnal Slattery as a new Chairman.
Serbia may be looking to acquire 3 of Archer’s Midnight eVTOLs to showcase them at the 2027 Expo in Belgrade. (h/t Tango Six!)
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
The EU’s SAF mandate kicked in on January 1st, but the digital reporting tool necessary for compliance is, apparently, not ready yet!
Boeing follows Norwegian in investing in Norsk E-Fuel, a synthetic sustainable aviation fuel developer based in Norway.
LanzaJet has selected the site in Teeside, in the North of England, for its Project Speedbird, which will produce 30 million gallons of renewable fuel every year.
Austrian Airlines is the latest airline to adopt AeroSHARK fuel-saving technology, which was developed jointly by Lufthansa Group and German chemicals giant BASF.
Other sustainable aviation stories
New York’s JFK New Terminal One will have a pooled all-electric fleet of ground support equipment. According to the developers, this is the first time a fleet of all-electric ground support equipment of this scale has been bought centrally for sharing between all the different service providers.
Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO) has inaugurated a new huge solar farm within its premises. For reference, it produces the equivalent of the energy consumed by 30,000 Italian homes.
Embraer is also installing a large solar farm at its facilities in Melbourne, Florida, where its Executive Jets division is based.
